An owl framed by ivy leaves

Owl and Ivy

Jean Royle created this card design of the ‘Owl and Ivy’ in the 1940s. This original design measures  5″ x 3″ and is the earliest surviving lino print specifically designed by Jean Royle to create a Christmas card. At the time she was living near Stowmarket in Suffolk. She has cleverly made use of the positive and negative qualities of the technique to make the ivy leaves particularly decorative.
